YOUR SEA FREIGHT PARTNER

With our proficiency as ocean freight forwarders, we offer efficient services at highly competitive rates. Once you submit our online form, a member of our skilled supply chain team will reach out to you to evaluate your shipping needs and offer a competitive quote. Our ocean services encompass both port-to-port and door-to-door options, catering to both LCLs (Less than Container Loads) and FCLs (Full Container Loads) to meet your specific requirements.

- LCL – Less Than Container Load

Our Less-than-Container-Load (LCL) services facilitate the transportation of your cargo worldwide. LCL shipments are smaller loads that do not necessitate full container capacity. These shipments are consolidated by combining goods from various customers, offering cost benefits and enabling the shipping of smaller consignments.

- FCL – Full Container Load

British Freight offers comprehensive Full Container Load (FCL) sea freight services for customers globally. FCL, short for full-container load, entails the transportation of a container from the loading point to the unloading destination. Depending on the volume of goods, FCL can be the most cost-effective transportation option for your business. With FCL, your container exclusively carries your goods, enabling a direct shipment from origin to destination without unnecessary stopovers along the route.

The Advantages of Choosing Sea Freight

Using sea freight services for your supply chain logistics offers several clear advantages:

1. Cost Efficiency:
Generally, ocean shipping provides the most cost-effective option for shippers, especially for long-distance transportation. According to estimates from the World Bank, ocean freight can be 10-13 times cheaper than air freight.

2. Cargo Flexibility:
Sea freight companies can accommodate shipments of various sizes. Smaller shipments may be consolidated with others to fill a container, reducing transportation costs. Larger cargo can fill one or more containers, offering shippers unmatched bulk options. Additionally, sea shipping can handle awkwardly sized or shaped cargo such as cars or heavy machinery.

3. Environmental Benefits:
Compared to air and many other modes of transportation, sea shipping has a significantly lower carbon footprint, making it an environmentally preferable choice. Ships are the most carbon-efficient means of transportation, emitting fewer grams of exhaust gas emissions per ton of cargo transported than any other method. This advantage is further enhanced as technology advances and more eco-friendly options like liquefied natural gas (LNG) power are employed in shipping.

    FAQs

Sea freight encompasses the shipment of substantial quantities of goods via carrier vessels. Once the goods are containerized, they are loaded onto a ship. This method proves economical for transporting sizable amounts over extended distances, given its ability to accommodate around 18,000 containers.

The cost of ocean freight is determined by the standard rates set by shipping and freight companies. For Full Container Load (FCL) shipments, charges are typically contingent on the size of the container, whether it’s 20′, 40′, or 45′, as well as the container type – refrigerated or non-refrigerated.

In the case of Less than Container Load (LCL) shipments, charges are based on whichever metric is greater between weight or volume. LCL base rates are computed by multiplying either the weight in tons or the volume in cubic meters (CBM) by the freight company’s designated LCL base rate.

Opting for sea freight over air freight offers significantly lower costs. If cost efficiency is a primary concern, sea freight may be the most favorable choice. Although it involves longer transit times and a higher likelihood of delays, sea freight can be up to 10-13 times more economical than air freight.

In essence, freight forwarding entails the strategic coordination and implementation of logistics for global shipments on behalf of the sender. Freight forwarders oversee tasks such as negotiating freight charges, monitoring container movements, arranging customs paperwork, and consolidating shipments.
